Amber Flag

This year in St Vincent’s we are applying for the Amber Flag. The Amber Flag initiative is one that promotes positive mental health and wellbeing in schools. We believe that this year especially, the mental health and wellbeing of our children, our parents and our staff is extremely important and we want to make sure that we are doing as much as we can to mind ourselves and each other.
To achieve an Amber flag we have three goals:

  1. To host a mental health day / week
  2. To fundraise for Pieta House
  3. To set up a buddy system in the school

A committee has been set up among the staff and the children. One child from every class has been chosen to be on the Sunshine Team (Amber Flag committee). This committee meets every 2 weeks to decide on class and whole school goals to focus on.
The staff committee have decided to host a mental health week from January 25th – 29th (delayed due to school closure - to be rescheduled). During this week the children, staff and parents will take part in many activities to promote their mental health and wellbeing. To finish the week, the staff, children and parents of St Vincent’s Infant Boys’ School will walk the new Royal Canal greenway wearing our Amber t-shirts to promote mental health and wellbeing in the community. We would love to have as many parents and children take part as possible to make this as successful as we can!
